Pray for Peace
When in the history of mankind had praying for peace ever worked?
The conflicts in the Middle East that have been going on forever, are in fact a direct result of people praying. People who are praying to their “One and only true god” while slaughtering those who are praying to a different “One and only true god” only because of their ancestral history.
It seems incongruos that Tyrell Bramwell is protesting against the people protesting against a nation that is currently breaking the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” on a massive scale.
Israel’s actions have gone far beyond punishing Hamas for their attacks. We have seen Israel indiscriminately slaughter thousands of innocent families that had nothing to do with the attacks. We’ve seen Israel murder people who were trying to feed the people that Israel wants to see die of starvation. We’ve seen Israel blow up food caches meant for the people dying of starvation.
While one can argue the student protester’s actions might be misguided as vandalism should never be condoned, at least they are willing to fight for what’s right while Bramwell simply retires to the comfort of his church provided tax-free dwelling every night.
Would Bramwell possibly feel different it was his wife and daughter that were murdered, and his house flattened by a random missile sent by a nation he did nothing to attack?
It’s a reality that most of us in the U.S. have a hard time comprehending. But those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center on 9/11 died because of the type of religious extremism that will drive people to commit unspeakable horrors. Killing yourself and 3000 innocent people by hijacking an airplane and flying it into a skyscraper is something that only the warped logic of religion can make sense of.
The people who went to work in New York that morning never expected to die because some religious nutcake had the power to commit such evil.
Such evil that Bramwell’s god chose to ignore, even after the first plane hit the tower. Surely, at that point, if god didn’t notice it on his own, he should have been ready to answer the prayers of the passengers on the second plane. But he failed to not only stop those hijackers, but those on the one that hit the Pentagon, and the one that was aiming for the Capitol. Flight 93 wasn’t saved by god, and the passengers heroically sacrificed their own lives so that the plane wouldn’t reach it’s intended target.
God was 0 for 4 that day. Why would we ever trust god to end a war if he can’t even prevent an hijacked airplane from being used as a weapon to end thousands of innocent lives?
