Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ – Matt 7: 21-23
Honestly, I don’t know what Bramwell is trying to convey with this week’s sign.
Is he saying that Jesus wasn’t inclusive? If so, maybe that’s where Bramwell draws his inspiration to discrimate.
I do know that the religious right is currently fascinated with the word woke. They have decried it as something shameful, when in reality wokeness can be likened to kindness, compassion, and empathy, which in my book, are all positive traits that the bible, and in fact all religions seem to endorse.
Wokeness is simply the latest codeword that gets bandied about on talk radio repeatedly until the right wing is convinced it is evil, without even knowing what it refers to.
Another example is the word socialism. I saw a Jeep parked on the street the other day with a bumper sticker that said “Fuck socialism, Biden sucks”. Aside from being rude, I found it laughable to see the vehicle parked on a public street that was constructed through socialism.
Another bumper sticker I saw recently on a very obvious right wing vehicle declared “Don’t be sheep”, again laughably hypocritical coming from someone who obediently follows the drivel parceled out by right wing media, as evidenced from the other messages displayed on their vehicle.
This rebuttal kind of wandered, because I really don’t get what Bramwell was saying. But if I read the passage from the Gospel of Matthew, I’m pretty sure he’s telling people like Bramwell to fuck off. Even if there was a heaven, there’s a good chance Jesus would not admit Bramwell.
