Awake Mankind
Maybe they need to buy a comma and an exclamation mark for their sign, because without any punctuation, this sign is pretty confusing.
The actual full quote should be:
Awake, mankind! For your sake God has become man. Awake, you who sleep, rise up from the dead, and Christ will enlighten you. I tell you again: for your sake, God became man.
But wait, if God became man we have a problem. Augustine didn’t say “God became a man” as in Jesus. No, he says “God has become man” and “God became man”. That can only be interpreted as mankind. So God became mankind, but some of mankind is asleep or dead and needs to be enlightened.
So part of god is either asleep and/or dead, and he needs to be enlightend. By himself.
Got it. Makes total sense now.
