This is one of those signs that when I drive by and read it the first time I wonder whether I really read it correctly.
Being a “Pro-life” Christian and endorsing slavery were interlinked in this country from the beginning and the two ideas remain symbiotic to this day.
The first slaves were introduced to America in 1619, by a Christian colony at Point Comfort.
George Washington: Christian and a slaveholder.
Patrick Henry: Christian and a slaveholder.
In fact, 34 of the 47 signers of the Declaration of Independence were slave holders. 95% of the signers were Christians. So doing the math, roughly 75% of the founders of our country were Christian slave holders.
Sure, slavery as it existed in the 1700s and 1800s has been made illegal, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t slavery in the U.S. The pro-life (pro-birth as I like to refer to them) political party is the party that refuses to raise the minimum wage for adults, and is making it easier for corporations to exploit our children by allowing them to be hired for even cheaper. The Republican party is anti-union, because they are the party of the rich, and the rich don’t get rich by paying workers a living wage.
Kids should not have to work so that millionaires and billionaires can buy a bigger yacht. Kids should be going to school and playing. That’s what being a kid is about.
Funny how Republicans don’t get all up in arms about white children stealing their jobs, but all these people coming across the border who are more than willing to do the work most Americans don’t want to, well, we can’t have that, can we?
